„It is not the scaffolding in the picture, but the scaffolding of the picture that I would call Maria Hobbing’s art. Her pictures, often made of a variety of brush strokes, often bear architectural titles such as“ Passage „,“ Speicher „or“ Hortus Conclusus “ Which through horizontal, and diagonal axes guided look in various ways into the depths and released there, broken, mirrored, or alienated less over. Of cause it’s possible to follow the picture titles too easily and to see images of architectural spaces too quickly but this is a trap. In some pictures, abstract elements have already appeared, which nevertheless can be read figuratively. In addition, other, paradoxical pictures such as „openness to transparency“ lead deeper into this ambivalence between opening up and refusal to access these places: the images in production and reception are signs of the theatricality of a labyrinthically constructed world –
